The Ministry of Education has announced that the Competitive Examination for the Recruitment of Graduates to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service – 2023 (2026) was successfully conducted today (24) across the island.

The examination was conducted to fill Sinhala, Tamil, and English medium teacher vacancies existing in national and provincial schools across the country.
The examination was held at 1,048 examination centres islandwide, with graduates currently serving in the public service as well as other graduates appearing for the examination.
According to the Ministry, 66,991 applicants from the public service and 96,442 applicants from other categories had applied for the examination. In addition, the Department of Examinations had provided necessary facilities for 323 applicants with special needs.
Although plans had been made to conduct this examination in 2023, it had been temporarily suspended due to several cases filed before the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.
The Ministry further stated that, as all legal proceedings have now concluded, the examination was conducted with the aim of addressing the existing teacher vacancies across the country.
