Archaeological Assistant & Watchman Job Vacancies 2026

The Department of Archaeology, under the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, has invited applications for recruitment to the Primary Level (Non-Technical) Archaeological Assistant III and Watchman III posts at archaeological sites throughout Sri Lanka.

Interested and eligible applicants can submit applications on an open basis before the closing date.

1. Archaeological Assistant III – 191 Posts
2. Watchman III – 324 Posts

• Total Number of Vacancies – 515

Educational Qualifications

Applicants should have:

• Passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in not more than two sittings.
• Passed six (06) subjects, including at least two credit passes.

Professional Qualifications

• Having a professional qualification in the relevant field is considered a special qualification.

Expericene

• Experience in the relevant field is considered a special qualification.

Physical Requirements

Applicants should:

• Be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
• Be capable of performing the duties attached to the post.

Age Limit

Applicants must be:

• Not less than 18 years
• Not more than 45 years

All the above qualifications should have been fulfilled as of the closing date of applications.

Other Requirements

• Must have been a permanent resident of the relevant province for the last five years (to be confirmed by a Grama Niladhari Certificate).
• Must possess good character and integrity.
• All required qualifications must be completed as at the date of application.
