Calling Applications from Eligible Sri Lankan Students for the Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Undergraduate, College of Technology, and Postgraduate Scholarship Programmes – Academic Year 2027 Offered by the Government of Japan
These fully funded scholarships offer monthly allowances, full tuition fee coverage, airfare support, and the opportunity to pursue higher education at recognized institutions in Japan.

1. Undergraduate Scholarships
For students who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in Japan in the field of Natural Sciences.
Main eligibility:
- Sri Lankan citizen
- Born on or after 02 April 2002
- Minimum 3 passes in G.C.E. (A/L) 2025 in Mathematical Stream
- Subjects required: Chemistry, Physics, Combined Mathematics
- Good English knowledge
- Basic Japanese knowledge is an added advantage
Fields include:
- Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Architecture, Biotechnology, Information Engineering, Environmental Engineering and more
2. College of Technology (KOSEN) – Undergraduates
For students interested in technical and engineering education in Japan.
Main eligibility:
- Same eligibility as the Undergraduate Programme
- A/L 2025 Mathematical Stream required
Fields include:
- Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Information & Network Engineering, Materials Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Maritime Engineering
3. Research Students – Master’s Degree
For graduates planning to pursue postgraduate studies in Japan.
Main eligibility:
- Sri Lankan citizen
- Born on or after 02 April 1992
- Bachelor’s Degree of 4 years or more
- Second Class Upper Division or above
- Degree from a recognized State University or approved HEI
- G.C.E. A/L English minimum “C” pass
4. Research Students – PhD
For candidates planning to pursue doctoral studies in Japan.
Main eligibility:
- Sri Lankan citizen
- Born on or after 02 April 1992
- Bachelor’s Degree (4 years or more)
- Second Class Upper Division or above
- Master’s Degree in relevant field
- G.C.E. A/L English minimum “C” pass
Scholarship Benefits – Selected candidates will receive:
- Full tuition fee coverage
- Entrance and registration fees paid by MEXT
- Monthly living allowance
