Educational Qualifications
- Passed the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination in not more than two attempts.
- Passed six (06) subjects, including Sinhala/Tamil/English and Mathematics.
- Obtained at least two (02) Credit passes.
Age Limit
As at 28 September 2026:
- Minimum: 18 years
- Maximum: 28 years
Accordingly, applicants born on or before 28 September 2008 and on or after 29 September 1997 are eligible, subject to the other requirements.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the post and serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
Height:
- Male: Minimum 5 feet 6 inches (5′ 6″)
- Female: Minimum 5 feet 2 inches (5′ 2″)
Eyesight:
- Must have 6/6 vision without spectacles, subject to passing the specified eye test.
Chest:
- Male applicants: Minimum 32 inches.
Preliminary Physical & Aptitude Test
All applicants will be required to undergo a preliminary test conducted by a board appointed by the General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways.
Candidates who obtain 50% or more of the total marks in this preliminary assessment will be selected to proceed to the written examination.
The preliminary test includes: 1,000 metre run, Chin-ups, Push-ups, Sit-ups, Squat thrust, Memory test (Kim’s Game)
Written Examination
Candidates who successfully pass the preliminary assessment will be eligible to sit for the written examination.
The written examination consists of:
- Intelligence Test
- Language Ability
The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil & English
